Every business should (though many do not) have a plan for how to keep operating in the case of some sort of emergency. Power outage, loss of Internet, fire, etc.
What almost no one seems to have is a plan for if that plan fails, which it seems happens all too frequently. Your generator or battery backups will have failed since the last time you tested them (even if that was yesterday), the backup Internet connection will go down too, the power outage will be broad enough to include your offsite location. When something goes wrong, it always seems like other things go wrong as well.
The ultimate disaster plan is to have capable people who do not panic and can do what needs to be done to keep business moving. The old saying is that no battle plan survives contact with the enemy, but that’s not true. The last line of your battle plan should read, “When all else fails, improvise.”
Plan for everything, including not having a plan.
